How to find your IP address on any device
The quickest way to find your public IP address is to open the My IP page in any browser. Your private address, the one used inside your home network, is found in your device settings.
Your public IP address (any device)
Open the My IP page on the device you are using. It shows the address that websites see, along with the approximate location and your provider. Each device on the same home network shows the same public address.
Private IP address on Windows
Open Settings, then Network and internet, choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then your connection, and look for IPv4 address. Or open Command Prompt and type ipconfig.
Private IP address on a Mac
Open System Settings, choose Wi-Fi or Network, select your connection and click Details. The address appears under TCP/IP. In Terminal you can type ipconfig getifaddr en0.
iPhone and Android
On an iPhone, open Settings, Wi-Fi, then tap the information icon next to your network and read IP Address.
On Android, open Settings, Network and internet, Wi-Fi, tap your network, and look for IP address, which may be under Advanced. Menus vary slightly between makers.
On your router
Sign in to your router’s admin page and look for a status or WAN section. The address listed there is the public address your provider gave you.
Common questions
Why is the address on my device different from the one on this site?
Your device shows its private address on your home network. This site shows your public address, which your router shares with every device.
Does the public IP address show where I live?
Only roughly. It usually shows a town or region and your provider, not your street.
Is it safe to share my IP address?
It is safe to share for troubleshooting, but there is no need to post it publicly. It is not a password.
